Set in a Prisoner of War camp for British officers, Death in Captivity opens with the discovery of one of the prisoners dead in an escape tunnel. Accident or Murder? And when one of the prisoners is arrested for murder by their Italian captures it is left to Captain “Cuckoo” Goyles to discover the truth.
I have read many of the British Library Crime Classics, and this is now my favorite. This is a great “Golden-Age” detective classic. A locked room mystery with a setting that gives it a twist. Intelligently-written with an extremely original plot. As a “fair play” mystery it provides all of the clues you need to solve the crime.
A fast-paced thriller filled with mounting suspense, riddled with dry humor, and several twists. I was riveted from the beginning.
My thanks to Edelweiss and Poisoned Pen Press for the advance copy of this book for my review
