If you, by chance take a peek at my Goodreads 2019 Reading Challenge, you will see that I’ve read several of the Jack Haldean Mystery Series by Dolores Gordon-Smith. I’m not sure how I found these originally (probably a Goodreads or Amazon recommendation), but I’m very glad I did.
Set in the 1920’s in the aftermath of WWI, Jack Haldean is a former Royal Flying Corps pilot who has become a magazine writer as well as a writer of detective stories. The series is reminiscent of Golden Age Mysteries such as Calamity in Kent by John Rowlands. The characters are engaging, the plots well thought out, and while, like most long-time mystery readers, I can pick out the killer before the end, I am often left wondering if I’m correct right up until the reveal.
